Christmas has always been filled with happy memories for me. My Christmas truly begins on Christmas Eve, when the kitchen fills with the aromas of roast chicken and pork.

The final presents are wrapped and we sit down to watch Scrooged.

Christmas morning is just as special. For as long as I can remember, it’s meant waking up at ridiculous o’clock to unwrap presents from Santa. The magic of those moments—sitting in our pajamas, surrounded by torn wrapping paper and big smiles—is something I’ll always treasure

Breakfast on Christmas morning is another tradition in our home: eggs benedict with ham off the bone. After breakfast, we play with our new gifts, take in the joy of the morning, and slowly start cleaning up the sea of paper left behind and start peeling the vegetables. No matter the weather, we sit down to a traditional roast with all the fixings—crispy roast potatoes, sweet pumpkin, golden sweet potato, cauliflower smothered in white sauce, peas, broccoli, homemade gravy, and of course, a generous spoon of applesauce to go with the pork.

The rest of the day is spent pottering around, watching some tv and just in general enjoying the company

It’s simple, but it’s these rituals—shared meals, little traditions, and happy chaos—that create the kind of Christmas memories you carry with you forever.
